Press Release: Michele Edwards to take part in Community Criminal Justice Days event on Oct. 19th.

Michele Edwards, candidate for The Virginia House of Delegates from the 20th District, will appear at Blue Ridge Community College on Oct. 19. BRCC is sponsoring, “a two-day summit to address criminal justice issues on a local, state, and national level” that will begin on Oct. 18. The organizers hope community dialogue will lead to strategy for improvement in Virginia.

A Candidates Forum, beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 19, will wrap up the event and is free to the public. Candidates for the 2018 VA General Assembly session, as well as current delegates, will be briefed on justice-related issues communities wish to see taken up in the session, and are invited to share their views on future legislative action.

Edwards, who announced her candidacy in March, continues to volunteer weekly at Middle River Regional Jail, helping individuals there gain basic skills such as budgeting, in order to become self-supporting upon release.

The two-day event is sponsored by the Institute for Reform and Solutions, “an organization committed to facilitating reform and developing cost effective, restorative and balanced solutions to address the dysfunctions of the Criminal Justice System.”
