Letter to the Editor: Michele Edwards will fight for us in Richmond

Staunton NewsLeaderOn Election Day, November 7, those of us in the 20th district have a clear choice for delegate in the General Assembly. That seat is currently held by Dickie Bell. His opponent, Democrat Michele Edwards, would offer far better representation for her constituents.

Your readers should go to www.michelefordelegate.com to see her positions: Expanding Medicaid for Virginians; fighting for working families; supporting fully-funded public education; protecting the environment; resisting Dominion’s takeover of private land for an unnecessary pipeline; and promoting economic growth and development.

In addition, on her website, readers can see the number of endorsements Edwards has received from national and local organizations for her strong and principled standards. She has been endorsed by the National Association of Social Workers - Virginia Chapter; the Virginia Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW); Sierra Club Virginia Chapter; CSGV (The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence); Humane Dominion; Virginia AFL-CIO; and Friends of Augusta. All of these organizations fight for our workers, our environment, equal rights, humane treatment of animals, and sensible gun ownership.

For Virginians who care about those issues, Michele Edwards is the only possible candidate to vote for on Nov. 7. I urge people to vote and not let the current political environment discourage them; we can fight for democracy, and the place to start is to make sure Democrats take the House of Delegates. Here in the 20th district, we can send someone who will fight for us, Michele Edwards.
