Letter to the Editor: Edwards would represent her 20th District constituents well in House of Delegates

NewsLeaderBy some metrics our economy has never been stronger. The stock market has tripled in value since 2009 and many companies are more profitable than ever. However, if you talk to many in our area, that success seems to have had little impact locally. Many of our friends and neighbors struggle to make ends meet, and it's not because they don't want to work hard; they either can't find a job or don't have the training needed for the jobs that are available. If we want Virginia, and by extension America, to be "great", then we need to ensure that our economy works for everyone. Big businesses such as Dominion buy influence in Richmond to pass legislation that benefits their bottom line, rather than their customers. Many politicians are all too eager to accept campaign donations in return for future favors.

Michele Edwards isn't one of those politicians. If elected, her choices in the House of Delegates will be in the best interest of her constituents--who also happen to be the biggest contributors to her campaign. She will work to protect our thriving industries, like agriculture and tourism, while also promoting new ones like clean energy and technology. The unemployed in the 20th district aren't looking for a handout but a hand up. They want local jobs so they can remain in the Valley and contribute to our community. We need representatives in Richmond that work for us, not for a campaign check, and Michele Edwards fits the bill!
