Letter to the Editor: Bell won't face opponents or the public but wants to be re-elected

NewsLeaderThe News Leader has published information about the Forum being hosted by the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library. This is wonderful news! But, I so badly want the candidates for the House of Delegates, Michele Edwards, Will Hammer and Del. Dickie Bell, to participate in a live debate.

Michelle and Will have stated they are eager for such a debate but Dickie Bell makes no comment, nor does he reply to the emails and messages I have personally sent him. The reported reason for a live debate not being possible is "scheduling conflicts" which could not be resolved? Give us a break!

To not participate in a live debate is a poor reflection of Bell's ability and/or willingness to listen to his constituents so that he can actually represent them. Once again, I fear we have a candidate who intends to stick to his party's platform completely disregarding the opinions of those he represents. This is a distressing decision and voters can consider if that is a person they want to represent them. Health care, gun control, tax reform, the Pipeline, as well as other hot topics should be debated in an open forum.
